The renewable energy market in Spain is growing exponentially, and one of the main challenges is storage. Despite some regulatory difficulties, companies like Rolwind and Abo Wind are betting on battery technology and are currently progressing with projects in the approval process for over 250 MW, respectively.

Rolwind is one of the companies that is most committed to this type of ventures. On February 7th, the “St Palmosilla” project, which was in the pre-consultation phase, was assigned a counselor, indicating progress in the processing status.

St Palmosilla” is a 200 MW installed capacity energy storage plant, which will be located in the municipality of Tarifa, province of Cádiz, within the Autonomous Community of Andalusia. According to the company, it will be operational by 2025.

In addition to this plant, which is expected to continue advancing in the processing process of the Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge (MITECO), Rolwind has three other projects in the pre-consultation process totaling 410 MW (see list below).

One of them is ST Cerillo, which will have a capacity of 110 MW and will be located in Álora, a municipality in the province of Málaga in Andalusia. The second one, called “ST Solorzano,” will be installed in Cantabria and will have a capacity of 100 MW, while the last one, “ST Grandas de Salime,” will be larger in scale with a capacity of 200 MW and will be installed in the Principality of Asturias.
